Since each client is unique and responds differently to counseling, I use a variety of counseling therapies and techniques. Approaches I primarily use include Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Attachment Core Pattern Therapy (ACPT), the Cloud-Townsend Growth Model and The Developmental Model of Couples Therapy.
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)
ART uses eye movements and image replacement to directly reprogram the way distressing memories and images are stored in the brain so that they no longer trigger strong physical and emotional reactions. ART is effective with traumatic memories, PTSD, phobias, OCD, sexual assault/childhood sexual abuse, and other disorders. For more information visit https://acceleratedresolutiontherapy.com/

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT stresses the role of thinking in how we feel and what we do. It is based on the cognitive model, which hypothesizes that people’s emotions and behaviors are influenced by their perception of events. It is not the situation in and of itself that determines what people feel but rather the way in which a person thinks about the situation. CBT helps identify the automatic thoughts and beliefs associated with situations and events enabling a person to challenge those thoughts and beliefs that are inappropriate, biased, irrational or distorted and replace them with more rational and appropriate ones. CBT helps us to change the way we experience a situation, even if the situation does not change. CBT has been clinically proven to help individuals with a wide range of disorders, including depression and anxiety.

Attachment Core Pattern Therapy (ACPT)
The quality of attachment a child experiences in the first years of life with his/her primary caregiver will affect the ability to bond (form an attachment) in subsequent friendships or intimate relationships throughout life. Research shows that patterns of attachment develop from childhood experience and become relationship styles in adults. Becoming aware of these patterns of attachment and resulting relationship styles can help a person see how their formative years created current ways of relating to others, identify repeating problematic patterns of relating and discover and develop the skills needed to build healthier relationships and deepen the bond and connections in their intimate relationships, families and friendships. Cloud-Townsend Growth Model
Keys to growth are drawn from Scripture to help people resolve issues of relationships, maturity, emotional problems, and overall spiritual growth. This model identifies essential processes that help people grow, such as bonding to others, separating from others, sorting out good and bad in ourselves and others, and becoming a mature adult. Struggles and problems can result in a person’s life when they fail to develop in one of these areas of growth and this biblical model shows changes to make in our lives to bring about healing personally, emotionally, relationally and spiritually.

The Developmental Model of Couples Therapy
Integrating Attachment Theory, Differentiation Theory and Neuroscience, the Developmental Model of Couples Therapy explains normal/natural stages and struggles that growing couples encounter. The model provides a structure for couples therapy by identifying the developmental task, developmental stalemate, diagnosis and specific treatment interventions for each stage of development. This model helps couples become collaborative instead of combative, understand the underlying cause of relationship distress and motivate unmotivated partners to take action.
